The Eclipse Theatre Troupe pursues Guinness World Record for longest theatre performance

The Eclipse Theatre Troupe, a dynamic ensemble of visionary creatives led by Graciano Enwerem (Sir Grrraciano), Tamara Dogubo, Paul Word Uma, and David Odiase (The 78th Psalmist), is set to make history with a daring attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest theatre performance in Lagos, Nigeria.

This ambitious endeavor, born from a collective passion for storytelling and cultural expression, marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s artistic landscape. Drawing on their extensive experience in performance art and poetry, the team aims to captivate audiences and inspire fellow creatives with their groundbreaking feat.

The idea to pursue this Guinness World Record first emerged in October 2022, following a poignant performance at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt. However, the tragic loss of one of their own, Chijioke Agwu Ndukwe, temporarily halted their aspirations. It wasn’t until March 2023, inspired by Hilda Baci’s Cookathon record-breaking achievement, that the team reignited their determination to set a new standard in theatrical excellence.

Scheduled to take place between October 12th-19th, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, the record-breaking event promises to showcase the resilience and creativity of The Eclipse Theatre Troupe. Armed with a meticulously crafted play titled “THINGS THAT COME IN THE MORNING,” the ensemble aims to immerse audiences in a continuous theatrical experience that transcends boundaries and challenges perceptions.

“We are dedicated to using our art as a catalyst for advocacy and social change,” remarks Graciano Enwerem, Founder of Figures of Speech movement and creative force behind The Eclipse Theatre Troupe. “Breaking this Guinness World Record is not just about setting a new standard; it’s about inspiring a generation of creatives to dream bigger and push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Preparations for the event have been rigorous, with the team facing challenges ranging from logistical hurdles to budget constraints. However, their unwavering commitment and collective vision have fueled their progress, ensuring that every aspect of the production is meticulously planned and executed.

“We are calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to support us in this historic endeavor,” urges Tamara Dogubo, founder of Pyros Academy and esteemed member of The Eclipse Theatre Troupe. “Whether it’s volunteering, providing financial assistance, or spreading the word, every contribution counts towards making this dream a reality.”

As the countdown to October begins, The Eclipse Theatre Troupe remains steadfast in their pursuit of artistic excellence and Guinness World Record glory. Through their unparalleled dedication and boundless creativity, they seek to leave an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural landscape and inspire generations to come.
