The Lord is my shepherd – Part 1

Ejikeme Ejim

Text: Psalm 23:1-6
Key Verse: Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (KJV)

Jesus is the true shepherd. We have only one shepherd and He is Jesus Christ. The devil is no one’s shepherd and demons cannot be your shepherd. Do not submit yourself to the ways of the world system nor allow the devil take over your life. It is only God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who does this great work of shepherd and therefore, it is not a surprise that Jesus is our shepherd.

There are hirelings everywhere, but they are not the true shepherds because they have no interest in the life of their sheep. They have no concern in the life of their sheep; they are just doing whatever they are doing to receive pay and they have no particular regard for their sheep but Jesus is the good shepherd. The Psalmist said, the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This is a confident, positive and bold statement about the shepherdship of our God.

Anyone who has given his life to Christ is a sheep of Christ. I am God’s own sheep and a sheep will always be differentiated from the goat. I became sheep unto Jesus by my own personal decision. It is my decision to belong to Christ. It wasn’t a decision taken in ignorance. It is not a decision sustained, maintained or retained in ignorance. It is what I call the most brilliant decision anyone can take on this side of Heaven. It is the most important decision that I have taken and it will continue to be the most important decision, the most important fellowship, the most important relationship and the most important union that I had. I have great love for my wife, my children, my parents, brethren in the Lord and every other person out there, but the greatest relationship that I have and the greatest relationship you should have is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I took decision to follow Christ brilliantly, willingly, voluntarily and surrendered my life to Jesus, Who is my All in All, and He owns me completely. Every day, I pray and go deeper in this relationship with the Lord. The Hymn we sing says, “Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus daily let me go; till my life is wholly lost in Jesus and His perfect will.” I, therefore, call upon you today with the love of God, please if you’ve just been going to church, but have not walked into this beautiful relationship with Jesus, please walk into it today. It is a decision you should take voluntarily, personally, willingly, joyfully and in absolute surrender to Christ. That is the perfect will of God for us, to come into a relationship in which you no longer own yourself, but the Lord owns you. It’s not what you want; it’s not how you see it; it’s not how you reason it out; it’s not what they say whoever they may be; it is what the Lord wants, it’s the wisdom of God; it is how God wants you to go and God should be your All in All.

Give your life to Jesus today completely and let Him be shepherd over your life and shepherd of your soul. Jesus as your shepherd and you as a sheep, you shall not lack any good thing. By God’s grace, you will not want for good health, you will not want for joy, peace and prosperity. In Christ, you will not want for God’s mercies and you will not want for divine favour.
