“They hardly sleep,” says Governor AbdulRazaq as he leads tributes to Armed Forces on Remembrance Day

On the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq stood alongside eminent Kwarans, security chiefs, and the Nigeria Legion to pay tribute to the fallen and serving heroes who have protected the nation. Laying a wreath at the solemn ceremony in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his deepest gratitude for the sacrifices made by soldiers throughout history, from the World Wars to ongoing internal security operations.


“The first and most important thing is to appreciate our Armed Forces for the sacrifices they have rendered,” the Governor declared. He acknowledged the tireless efforts of security personnel, emphasizing their dedication and commitment to keeping the country safe. “They hardly sleep at night,” he said, “in the barracks, bushes, and offices. We have to appreciate them, and their families too, for their tremendous roles and contributions.”

Governor AbdulRazaq specifically commended the exemplary work of security forces within Kwara state, praising their “yeoman’s job” in maintaining peace and security. He urged all Nigerians to join hands and work towards a more united nation, stating, “Let us be united in Nigeria.”

The ceremony saw other prominent figures, including the State Chief Judge, heads of security agencies, representatives of the Kwara House of Assembly, and the Emir of Ilorin, laying wreaths in honor of the fallen heroes. The event also acknowledged the families of fallen soldiers, with Hajia Ramat Sallaudeen, a widow, representing the sacrifices made by loved ones.

This Armed Forces Remembrance Day served as a poignant reminder of the dedication and courage displayed by those who serve to protect our nation. Governor AbdulRazaq’s call for unity resonated deeply, highlighting the importance of collective action in building a more peaceful and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
