Three people were injured, yesterday, in the pandemonium that followed the discovery of a missing one-year-old toddler in a well, in Itori town, Ewekoro Local Council of Ogun State.

The toddler, Janet Ajayi, who had been missing since January 6, 2023, was seen floating in the well, at a compound near her parents’ residence.

Thereafter, some angry persons reportedly attacked people believed to be living in the compound.

Janet’s mother, Daramola, had earlier told the police that the toddler was playing outside the compound when she (the mother) went in to pick up some clothes for her. She was, however, shocked to return and find her baby had disappeared.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, said the injured residents had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

She said: “When the baby was missing, the mother reported it. It was unfortunate that it was later found dead inside the well of the next compound. Those who were injured as a result of the violence that broke out have been taken to the hospital for medical care.

“The parents have taken the body away for burial against the police’s advice for an autopsy. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
