Tinubu, Amosun Mourn Subomi Balogun

Late Otunba Olasubomi Balogun

President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, expressed sadness over the passage of the Founder of First City Monument Bank, Otunba Subomi Balogun, describing him as a “great man of purpose.”

In similar vein, a former Ogun State governor, and senator representing Ogun Central, Ibikunle Amosun, added in a condolence message that Olasubomi’s life and times were “garlanded and signposted by significant accomplishments.”

In a condolence message by Tunde Rahman yesterday, the Tinubu said Balogun’s transition would create a vacuum that will be difficult to fill in the banking industry and among his Ijebu people where he was a symbol of unity and traditional values, and among Christians in Nigeria.

“Otunba Subomi Balogun lived a life full of many accomplishments and for this we are grateful to God. He was a giant among men who changed the course of history and lived life on his own terms as a reputable investment banker. He blazed the trail for others to follow.

“While we mourn the exit of this great man of purpose, we cherish and celebrate his great achievements, his philanthropy and the many lives he positively impacted. We appreciate and commend his huge contributions to the growth and development of our country.

“As a hard worker with exceptional nose for business advantages and opportunities, particularly during the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion window, the indigenisation era, Otunba Olasubomi left indelible footprints and legacies of excellence everywhere he traversed,” Amosun wrote , adding, “For Otunba Olasubomi, life was not just about money-making albeit God Almighty blessed him with so much. He stayed close to his royal roots, promoted Culture and supported hundreds of good causes, charities and the work of the Gospel within his Ijebu homestead, Nigeria as a whole and even beyond our shores.

“His exceptional philanthropic disposition will be sorely missed. In appreciation, well-deserved honours and accolades came his way in torrents. He was the Otunba Tunwase, Asiwaju Onigbagbo and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland,” the lawmaker said.
