Tinubu approves upgrading of Ibadan Airport

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrading of Ibadan Airport to an international airport.

Makinde made the announcement while receiving the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

“I will be heading to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja later today to get necessary documentation to that effect,” Makinde said.

The governor also assured that work on the project would commence as soon as all documentation had been perfected.

“The runway will be expanded and a new terminal will be built when the project commences. A team has been constituted to implement the project,” he added.

Makinde added that this is a significant milestone for Oyo as the upgrading of Ibadan Airport to an international standard would boost the economy of the state.

While discussing with Air Marshal Abubakar, Makinde also asked for the input of Air Force personnel in Oyo to ensure that the project meets the required operating standards.

Makinde had earlier stated that his administration will always remain committed to upgrading the Ibadan Airport to an international standard.
