Tinubu extends free ride on Abuja Metro Rail till end of 2024

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has extended the free ride of the Abuja Metro Rail to the rest of 2024.

Tinubu made the announcement while delivering an address at the re-launch of the Abuja Metro Rail in Abuja on Wednesday.

“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year free ride, since today you are not going to charge me. Let me give the people hope and reason to celebrate,” Tinubu said.

“Today, what we have in the FCT is another piece of evidence that we are a government that delivers on promises. I observe keenly other milestones that this administration has achieved especially in the areas of social services and other public utilities.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had last week declared that the Abuja Light Rail will operate free for two months, after its commissioning.

Wike added that the goal was to aid the ease of commuting for residents and that the President may extend the free train rides up to 6 months.
