Tiv urges FG to take swift action on Southern Taraba killings

The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), in Taraba state, has strongly criticized the State government for failing to find a lasting solution to the recurrent Tiv-Jukun crisis since April 1, 2019.

Briefing journalists on Monday in a world press conference that took place in the state capital, they voiced deep concern about the prolonged conflict between the Tiv and Jukun communities in Southern Taraba.

The group who spotlighted the plight of internally displaced persons, IDPs, called for immediate government intervention.

Led by its President General, James Baka, they sounded an alarm regarding returning IDPs facing threats and harassment, questioning the durability of the peace achieved.


The TCSA strongly criticized the State government for failing to find a lasting solution to the recurrent Tiv-Jukun crisis since April 1, 2019.

They called upon both the Federal and State governments to swiftly end the crisis, secure the displaced persons, and guarantee the protection of their civic rights.

Expressing concerns about the alleged partiality of the Nigerian army, the TCSA accused them of obstructing the return of IDPs to their homes.

Villages identified by them to be under military control are Specific villages, Tor Musa, Tor Lorshagher, Daa, Ikyernum, among others,


The TCSA appealed to the Chief of Army Staff to investigate their claims, take decisive action, and deploy neutral army officers to protect returning IDPs.

The association also pleaded for government assistance, relief materials, and heightened security for the returning displaced persons.

In a direct plea to state governor, the TCSA urged him to visit the returning IDPs in Wukari, providing them with a sense of belonging and confidence in the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis.

Additionally, they called on private individuals and organizations to assist the displaced people with relief materials.
