Toast to Tony Elumelu at 60

Elumelu @ 60

Lagos, the entertainment capital of Nigeria came alive on Wednesday, March 22, as Tony Elumelu, the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, celebrated his 60th birthday in grand style. Surrounded by loved ones, esteemed colleagues, and some A-list celebrities, the occasion will go down as one of the major gigs of 2023.

As part of the celebration, a special symposium was held in honour of the celebrant at the Tony Elumelu Amphitheatre in the UBA House. Tagged 60 for 60, the symposium featured 60 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme beneficiaries, alongside close friends and colleagues.

The celebrations continued well into the evening with a star-studded event that saw the likes of music icons Wizkid, CKay and Flavour perform live.

Meanwhile, president Muhammadu Buhari joined other world leaders in commending the impact of Elumelu on the African economy. Among those who sent goodwill messages to Elumelu were Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu; French President, Emmanuel Macron; Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana; Namibia’s Hage Geingob; President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix-Antoine Tshilombo and his Liberian counterpart, George Weah.

Tributes also poured in from Nigeria’s former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, alongside erstwhile President Bill Clinton of America, as well as Tony Blair, ex-British Prime Minister.
