Top Five Evergreen Easter Films You Should See

Christians all over the world are currently celebrating Easter – a period that signifies the sacrifice of Jesus Christ – death and resurrection.

To enjoy this easter period we have curated five evergreen films you should see, now or later after the holidays

These films not only depict the closest picture of what happens but their relevance to this period is always fresh and brings one closer to his maker.

The Passion of the Christ
The film was released in 2004, with the central theme focusing on the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ, before his death.

The film begins in the Garden of Olives where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last Supper. Jesus must resist the temptations of Satan.

Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, Jesus is then arrested and taken within the city walls of Jerusalem where leaders of the Pharisees confront him with accusations of blasphemy and his trial results in a condemnation to death.

Barabbas
The film was first created in 1961. This is an Epic account of the thief Barabbas, who was spared crucifixion when the Jews chose Christ in his place.

Barrabas (1961)

Struggling with his spirituality, Barabbas goes through many ordeals leading him to the gladiator arena, where he tries to win his freedom and confront his inner demons.

This film shows how man lost his ways many times by preferring to choose wrong instead of right.

The Prince of Egypt
An epic adventure and milestone in cinematic achievement, The Prince of Egypt has captivated movie audiences the world over, becoming one of the top animated films of all time.

Two brothers-one born of royal blood, the other an orphan with a secret past-grow up as the best of friends sharing a strong bond of free-spirited youth and good-natured rivalry.

The truth ultimately sets them at odds as one becomes the ruler of the most powerful empire on earth, the other the chosen leader of his people.

Their final confrontation will forever change their lives-and the world. Both spectacular entertainment and a celebration of the human spirit, The Prince of Egypt stands as a classic for the ages, for audiences of every generation to enjoy and cherish.

Risen
Produced in 2016. The film is about a Roman soldier and non-believer, who hunts for Jesus Christ’s body, not realizing that Jesus has risen from the dead.

Risen (2016)

RISEN is almost like the follow up movie to Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION, with some war violence and killing, but with a powerful Christian, biblical worldview promoting the reality of Jesus Christ’s physical resurrection.

Clavius is a Roman Military Tribune often called by Roman Governor Pontius Pilate to lead missions. In fact, Clavius made sure the Roman soldiers crucified Jesus in the correct manner.

The Pharisees come to Pilate and tell him that the soldiers need to watch Christ’s tomb, because of the prophecy that Jesus will rise from the grave.

The Pharisees obviously do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah who will Rise again, but rather believe that Christ’s followers will steal his body in order to make the prophecy seem true.

His Only Son
The film is a depiction of Christ’s relationship with God and man, however represented by the narration of Abraham and his Son Isaac.

His Only Son (2023)

By God’s order, Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah.

While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

The film was produced in 2023. And wraps up our selection for the top five epic films you should see during this easter.
