West Africa’s best golfers have been lined up to battle for the Custodian Classic’s N20 million purse on March 28 at Lakowe Lakes Golf Club, Lagos.

The Custodian Classic is part of the PGD Tour sponsored by Custodian Investment Plc., which inaugural edition was held at the Ikoyi 1938 Golf Section, where Ghanaian Vincent Torgah clinched victory.

This year’s event, according to the organisers, promises to be exciting as it will feature a lineup of approximately 80 players from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Cameroon.

A PGD Tour Director, Femi Olagbenro, said the Custodian Classic plays a prominent role in enhancing the tour’s stability and fostering player development.

He said the transition to Lakowe Lakes Golf Club, as host of the event, signifies the tour’s evolution.

“What we are building is a dynamic platform, where players will have to fight hard for every win and eventually task their productivity and abilities. We have tried a new venue for every returning event so far on this second season of the Tour, and this is what we hope we can continue,” Olagbenro said.

Also speaking at the event, Group Managing Director, Custodian Investment Plc, Wole Oshin, said, “The Custodian Classic has become a part of our social investment towards capacity development of the Nigerian youth, a demographic pivotal to our nation’s future.”

It is our way of communicating faith in the abundance of talents in the country.”

He added that the firm’s strategic partnership with the PGD Tour underscores its ethos of recognising and rewarding excellence in sports.

“At Custodian, we share similar values with the PGD Tour and align with their developmental blueprint for the sport. Our collaboration shows our shared commitment to advancing the game of Golf.”
