Top official attacked over ticket racketeering at AFCON final

A top Nigerian official was allegedly attacked on Saturday by supporters and tickets for yesterday’s AFCON final between the Super Eagles and Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire taken from him.

It was gathered that the official was beaten up, and over 100 match tickets were snatched by desperate fans, who wanted to be at the stadium to be part of the final match.

The incident, according to SCORENigeria, came against the backdrop of a massive match ticket racketeering for the AFCON final in Abidjan. The fixed price for the final match ticket for a cheap seat was 5,000 CFA, (about N10,000) .

However, many people, who bought the tickets at a cheaper rate decided to sell as much as 70,000 CFA (about N140,000), a situation that did not go down well with the fans.

The 60,000-capacity Alassane Quattara Olympic Stadium in Abidjan was full for yesterday’s 34th AFCON final.
