In a release signed by her..Mrs Lola Ade John said ‘ This day serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable contributions of women to our society and marks a significant milestone in the ongoing journey towards gender equality and empowerment.”

She said pointed out that Nigerian women have consistently demonstrated resilience, creativity, and determination in various spheres of life, enriching our cultural fabric and driving progress in diverse fields. As we commemorate this day, it is imperative to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women while also acknowledging the challenges they continue to face.

In line with this year’s theme, “Seizing Opportunities, Transforming Lives,” the Minister emphasizes the immense potential within the tourism sector to empower women economically and socially. Tourism presents a wealth of opportunities for women to showcase their talents, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit, thereby enhancing their status and contributing to national development.

The tourism industry encompasses a wide range of sectors, including hospitality, travel, leisure, and cultural heritage, where women can play pivotal roles as entrepreneurs, employees, and community leaders. By actively participating in tourism-related activities, women can not only generate income for themselves and their families but also drive sustainable development, promote cultural exchange, and preserve our rich heritage.

As we navigate the post-pandemic recovery phase, there is a pressing need to harness the potential of women in tourism to revitalize the sector and build back better. The Minister calls upon Nigerian women to seize the opportunities available within the tourism economy, whether through entrepreneurship, employment, or skill development initiatives.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism remains committed to creating an enabling environment that supports and empowers women in the tourism sector. This includes implementing policies and programs aimed at promoting gender equality, providing access to training and capacity-building opportunities, and facilitating the integration of women-owned businesses into tourism value chains.

On this occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of women in Nigeria and beyond. Together, let us work towards a future where every woman has the chance to thrive, succeed, and contribute meaningfully to our shared prosperity.
