Trader jailed 9 months for attempting to steal provisions

An Upper Area Court in Jo, on Friday, sentenced a 25-year-old trader, Mathew Osuolale, to nine months imprisonment for attempting to steal provisions.


Delivering judgment, a panel of made of Magistrate Ghazali Adam and Hyacinth Dolnaan, sentenced Osuolale following a guilty plea he entered.

The panel ordered the convict to pay a fine of N15,000.

The panel also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N15, 000.


Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported on Feb. 17, at the Anglo-Jos Police station by Mr Ajah Aquah the complainant.

Dabit said that the convict broke into the shop and destroyed the entrance door worth N15,000 with the intention to steal from the provision shop before he was caught.

The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under sections 336, 313 and 57 of the Plateau state penal code law.
