The Labour Party (LP) acting chairman, Lamidi Apapa, was booed by the party’s supporters at the Appeal Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
That was after Apapa and the Director General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council, Akin Osuntokun had earlier clashed.
Apapa and Osuntokun were seen in viral videos arguing over a seat at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) sitting in Abuja.
Apapa who is locked in a battle with Julius Abure, suspended chairman of the LP had arrived at the court for the case of a petition which the Presidential Candidate of the party, Obi, filed against the victory of President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
The supporters of the opposing LP faction outside the court were captured in a video screaming, ‘Ole’ (loosely translated as a thief), ‘Imposter’ etc., as Apapa’s supporters led him away.
This happened as the party’s factions clashed and made an attempt to attack Apapa who was, however, protected by policemen. They resisted journalists who tried to interview Apapa.
Labour Party in a tweet claimed that the Apapa faction was in the court to truncate the hearing of the tribunal.
It described Apapa as “rebel former Deputy National Chairman of Labour Party” who “made true his threat to truncate the Presidential Election Tribunal by attempting to appear as a representative of the Labour Party at the ongoing hearing.
“Apapa was, however, refused by the Tribunal. He was also thoroughly disgraced.”
