Tribunal receives election petitions against elected Ondo senators, Reps

No fewer than nine petitions have been submitted to the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal in Akure over the outcome of the February 25, 2023 National Assembly polls held in the state.

Secretary of the tribunal, Musa Adam, who disclosed this, yesterday, said that the tribunal had not received any petition as regards last Saturday’s House of Assembly poll.

According to Adam, two petitions were received for Senate, while seven were on the House of Representatives election.

Adam said that candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for Ondo North Senatorial District, Olusegun Phillips-Alonge, challenged the emergence of Olajide Ipinsigba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the senator-elect for the constituency.

He added that the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Ondo Central, Morounfoluwa Bademosi, also filed a petition to challenge the election of Adeniyi Adegbonmire of the APC.

For the House of Representatives seat, Adam reeled out the constituencies where petitions were filed to include Okitipupa/Irele, Ondo East/Ondo West, Akoko South-East/Akoko South-West, Ese-Odo/Ilaje and Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituencies.

Other federal constituencies, according to him, are Akure South/Akure North and Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West.

Adam further stated that the tribunal is anticipating petitions regarding the results of the House of Assembly election, saying that a petition must be submitted to the tribunal within 21 days of the date the election results are announced.
