TUC expresses commitment to members’ welfare

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Lagos State Council, has promised to carry out proactive oversight functions and initiate programmes that would impact the general welfare and working conditions of members.

The union said this was necessary for the New Year, especially as the electioneering period approaches.

The council’s chairman, Gbenga Ekundayo, in a New Year message, said the union would also pay critical attention to government policies that would positively impact its members.

Also, the state council plans to strengthen ties and help build bridges in the relationship between affiliate unions and management.

The union, described as toxic, the working relationship between unions and their management, particularly in the private sector.

It said some employers, who willfully push workers’ rights to the back burner, attack workers’ rights in the workplace.

This, the union said, would further help promote productivity as well as industrial peace and harmony.

As part of efforts to further empower members, the union said it was collaborating with the Lagos State Ministry of Agric as well as other strategic social partners in the agric value chain through the agric cooperative society.

The union said it would commence operations with its partners in the new year.

According to the union, the partnership would help in employment generation and also further boost the Internal Revenue of the state.
