TUC inaugurates Oba Raji-led caretaker committee as LSPGA rejoins RTEAN in Lagos

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday took a major step towards facilitating the reintegration of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LSPGA) back into the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Lagos State.

The TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo, represented by the Executive National Secretary, Comrade Nuhu Toro, inaugurated a Caretaker Committee to oversee the transition process.

The ceremony, which held at the Union’s office in Akesan area of Lagos State, was graced by the National President of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Muhammed, who emphasised the need for unity and cooperation among stakeholders in the transport sector.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Raji, was appointed through the National Executive Council resolution as the Chairman of the transition group, along with other dedicated members who will work towards a smooth and peaceful reintegration process.

This development follows the announcement by LSPGA yesterday, expressing readiness for a seamless transition back into RTEAN, in alignment with the directives of the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership.

The peaceful resolution of the lingering crisis within RTEAN has paved the way for the lifting of the suspension placed on the union by the state government.

Raji, in his acceptance speech which was greeted by thunderous applause, highlighted the importance of unity and peace among members, urging compliance with the traditional RTEAN uniform and the entire transition process

He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved and pledged to ensure a harmonious transition process, fostering peaceful co-existence within the union.

He said, “The appointment of transition chairmen for various sectors within the union demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and unity.

“The commitment to unity and peaceful resolution of disagreements underscores the collective effort towards a stronger and more cohesive RTEAN,” he noted.

To also serve as transition chairmen are Ladun Olatunde For keke napep and Comrade Adeshina Teslim Hussaini, aka Okanlomo for okada.

Meanwhile, the TUC President reiterated the importance of unity and adherence to the rule of law within the union, encouraging members to work together towards building a stronger and more progressive RTEAN.

He noted that forgiveness and reconciliation must be embraced by all to pave way for all members to actively participate in the union’s activities.

In conclusion, the TUC President highlighted the significance of resolving conflicts through maturity and adherence to the union’s constitution.

For 15 months, the activities of the RTEAN were banned in Lagos state following a leadership crisis that engulfed the association.

This led the state government to slam a ban on the association and subsequently appointed a 35-man Caretaker Committee to take over the activities of the union.

The ban was recently lifted prompting the reintegration.
