Two feared killed in Osun general election

The Presidential and National Assembly elections currently held, was relatively peaceful in Osun state with large number of voters trooping out to exercise their civic duties in all the 343 wards across the states.

However, unconfirmed report says there was violence in Ifelodun local council of Ikirun, between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress {APC} in which One Yomi Ademola was killed.

Besides, Senator Jide Omoworare said he received information that the violence also broke out at Olomu,a community in Ife south local council, where one person was shot and several properties destroyed.

Also in Boluwaduro local council of Ayegbaju,and Ilase, Obokun local council area, another clash between supporters of the PDP and APC parties broke out AND several injured.

In Ikirun and some parts of Ijesaland are flashpoints where supporters of the ruling party, APC and the opposition, PDP had clashes during electioneering campaigns.

In the two local councils of Olorunda and Osogbo local councils in Osogbo,the state capital, the turnout of voters was impressive with many voters trooping out for accreditation as early as 7.30 am.

However, in many poling centres visited in Ikire, osogbo, Ara,Awo, Ejigbo, Ile-Ife Gbongan, Ode-Omu, Sekona,Edun Abo, Ede north and south local councils, card reader reportedly failed to capture the fingerprint of many voters.

The Presiding officers where card readers developed problem handed out incident forms to voters whose fingerprint could not be captured, which will allow them be accreditated to enable them cast their votes.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola was accredited at his Ifofin ward 8,unit 1 Ilesa West local council where a large number of other voters were seeing on queue waiting to be accredited.

Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, APC Senatorial candidate for Osun west was also accredited at his extended family compound at ward 2 unit 9.

according to him in a statement, he said the accreditation was orderly and peaceful adding that he was the first person to be accredited while he did not also notice any problem with card reader at the unit.

The presiding officer at the unit, Blessing Omoigberala said the accreditation was without a hitch.

At ward 4,unit 38 where the former speaker of Osun state house of assembly, Adejare Bello was accredited, card readers was unable to pick fingerprint of voters waiting for accreditation.

Bello and the Presiding officer in the unit, Alaka Idiat said the problem posed by malfunctioning card reader had slowed down the accreditation process

Bello said in a report, he received information that similar problem posed by card reader also occurred at ward 5,unit 2 at Owode Ede which is one of the units having large number of registered voters.

Speaker of Osun state house assembly, Najeem Salam was accredited at ward 4,unit 6. Ejigbi, headquarters of Ejigbo local council. Large number of voters turned out in the area. He at at expressed hope that INEC would address the challenges posed by card readers for a hitch-free election.

Senator Mudashiru Hussein was accredited at his ward 3,unit 1 in Ejigbo.He said the accreditation exercise was peaceful and orderly but there was hitches about card reader at the unit.

Senator Iyiola Omisore was accredited at Iremo ward, Ile-Ife and Similar problem experirenced with card reader also affected the exercise in the area.

Senator Babajide Omoworare did his accreditation at Remo ward 3 unit 7,Aodimoku,Ile-Ife , in Ife Central local government

He said the process was peaceful in ile Ife area but noted that hoodlums caused violence at Olomu a community in Ife south local government where a person was shot and killed while property was aloso destroyed.

He also eaid he receive report about the challenges posed by card reader but expressed hope INEC would rise up to the occasion in order to give the election credibility.
