Uche Agbo leads Coal City Film Festival crew for 2022 edition

Notable filmmaker and founder of the Coal City Film Festival (CCFF) Uche Agbo has announced ‘Glocalization of African Cinema’ as theme of the 2022 edition of the CCFF. The festival is scheduled to hold in Enugu from March 24, through to March 26, and Agbo who is also Secretary General of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), hinted that like the 2021 edition, the 2022 Festival will feature Beginners Classes, Master Classes, Panel Discussions, Film Screenings, City Tours and Award Gala Night.

New additions to this year’s edition include the Palm Wine and Bush Meat Round table and the Coal City Film Festival Hall of Fame among others. Agbo also stated that Attendance at the Festival will be by registration and the registration grants participants Free Unlimited Access to the festival events. According to Agbo, ‘’registration remains open till the Festival ends via our website www.coalcityfilmfestival.com.


“This year, about 50 films were carefully selected by our jury team headed by the indefectible, multi-award winning Nigerian filmmaker, Obi Emelonye.”

Other members of the jury include Professor Dr. Mohan Das (India), Tiffany Thomas (USA), Leonard Amanya (Uganda), Emem Isong (Nigeria), John Henry Richardson (USA), and Nigerian actress and producer Judith Audu’’. The festival made its debut in March 2021. Observers say the first edition lived up to its billing in terms of theme, purpose, content and attendance.

Providing statistics about the attendance and the number of entries received at the maiden edition, CCFF’s Director of Communications Sammy Adrian Ajufo disclosed that the festival recorded over 3190 registered participants with over 1,460 physical attendees during the three day festival that featured various classes for Writers, Directors and Budding actors.

“We screened 62 films selected from over 298 films. We rounded off that edition with an impressive Awards Night with leading thespians such as Zack Orji, Chief Pete Edochie and renowned directors Lancelot Odua Imasuen and Okey Oku clinching prizes in Directorial categories,’’ he said.
