Udom rejoices over peaceful elections, citizens lament BVAS hitches

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has voted at Awa Ward 1 in Onna Council and expressed delight over what he described as peaceful conduct of the exercise.


The governor, who voted about 10:30 a.m., said he was impressed with the large turnout of voters., some However, some voters complained of their inability to cast their votes in time due to the failure of Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) in some polling units in the state. The areas affected include Units 23, Unit 5 and the Market Square in Uyo Council.

One of the voters, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “We came out very early but nothing is happening because BVAS in Units 23, 5, and Market Square, all at Anua, Uyo are not working. Officials of INEC are helpless. This kind of situation is an indication that INEC was not prepared.”

Voting stopped abruptly in Ikot Ebom as suspected PDP agents allegedly created crisis.
Voters were seen scampering to safety, while corp members parked election materials, waiting for the next line of action.

Overwhelmed police officers fled on their motorcycles, abandoning the voters to their fate.
It was gathered that trouble started when suspected agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the unit started making way for PDP supporters to vote while blocking others.
