Ugwuanyi inaugurates new council chairmen, deputies  

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, yesterday, inaugurated the new chairmen and deputies of the 17 councils of the state, who were all elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid jubilation.

Ugwuanyi charged them to hit the ground running in the delivery of democracy dividends to their constituents while prioritising the security and welfare of the people as enshrined in Section 14 Subsection 2 (b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). 

Restating his administration’s stance that council chairmen and their deputies must reside in their constituencies, Ugwuanyi enjoined them to strive to activate the rural economy and improve the security of their domains.


“As chief security officers of your councils, you must be vigilant and facilitate the deliberate and proactive gathering and sharing of intelligence amongst security agencies to inform their counter-terrorism initiatives,” he charged them. 

On the electoral processes that produced the new helmsmen, Ugwuanyi disclosed that the victory recorded in the February 23, 2022 council lections were testimonies to the propriety of their choices and the trust and confidence the people of Enugu State repose in the PDP under his leadership. 

In his goodwill message, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubosi, commended Ugwuanyi for his focused leadership and remarkable accomplishments in office in spite of the nation’s challenges and applauded the governor for his consistency in conducting council elections in the state since he assumed office. 

The Speaker also commended Enugu people for voting massively for the PDP at the polls and urged the new chairmen to always strive to be close and open to their people so that they would have a sense of belonging and support the government in delivering dividends of democracy and ensure peace and security.
