UITH seals pact with firm for 20hr electricity supply

University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital

University of llorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) management has sealed a pact with a power holding company to ensure 20 hours electricity supply daily to the tertiary health institution.

In a statement, yesterday, in Ilorin, the Head, Corporate Affairs Unit (CAU) of the hospital, Mrs. Elizabeth Ajiboye, dismissed insinuations of the institution groping in darkness.

According to Ajiboye, the power facility, now at about 95 per cent completion, will come alive in few day. She blamed the recent erratic power supply in the hospital on collapse of the national grid.

She said: “The responsive and responsible management of the UITH, led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Abdullah Yussuf, recently concluded arrangement with the company for a dedicated power line that guarantees 20 hours uninterrupted power.

“This is a testimony to the fact that the management has never relented in working towards addressing challenges confronting the hospital.”

The 20 hours electricity supply will commence fully by next week. This will boost power supply to the mortuary, theatre, wards, units and other critical areas of the hospital.”

She added that as an alternative to the erratic power supply, the management had been running the hospital’s vital activities on 10,000 litres of diesel to fuel the power generating plants in the hospital.

On alleged diversion of UITH patients by health workers to their private facilities, she said: “The management has commenced investigation into the matter, and we assure the general public that appropriate disciplinary measures shall be taken against any errant staff, in line with the public service rules.

“The medical institution is waxing stronger by the day. This was attested to by the recent publication where UITH was ranked among the top 15 accredited healthcare institutions in Nigeria (2023). We, once again, reiterate our commitment to the delivery of quality healthcare to our patients, while we covet their unalloyed cooperation.”
