Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed satisfaction over the quality and pace of work being carried out on the Lagos-Calabar Coaster Highway, maintaining that the project is on course to sustain the hope in President Bola Tinubu.

Umahi made the assertion, yesterday, during an interview with journalists after the inspection of the project, describing the highway as one of the most critical projects in the works sector and a critical national economic pillar.

He promised that the Federal Government would interface with all host states along the highway to provide the needed land for the establishment of economically-viable towns along the corridor to enable communities to reap the full economic benefits associated with the facility.

The minister said the dredging processes, excavation works, dewatering and landfilling, as well as placement of crushed stone base, cement stabilisation of the base course, drainage works and culverts, among other processes, were progressing satisfactorily.

“The first phase of the highway is to be completed within 36 months.
Provision has been made for a train station at the Ikorodu junction of the road, which will also provide a link to Ikorodu-Sokoto Highway,” he said.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, BarinadaMpigi and the Chairman, House Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, promised the unflinching support of the National Assembly in the area of funding through an appropriation to ensure that the project is completed on time.
