Umo Eno sacks commissioner as Fintiri reshuffles cabinet

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has sacked the Commissioner for Special Duties, Bassey Okon.


The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Enobong Uwah, who announced Okon’s sack in a statement issued yesterday, in Uyo, said that the official was to leave the cabinet immediately.

Uwah noted that Okon’s removal was part of efforts to reposition Eno’s administration.
This is the first time the governor would sack a top government official since he assumed office a year ago.

The governor inherited almost all his commissioners and top aides from the administration of his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.


Similarly, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle.
The exercise involved four commissioners in what Fintiri describes as an effort to optimise his administration’s performance.
Following the development, Neido Geoffrey Kufulto, who was Commissioner for Information, is now the Commissioner for Women Affairs.

According to a statement released, yesterday, by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Wunfe Anthony was moved from the Ministry of Women Affairs to the Ministry of Transportation.

James Iliya, previously Commissioner for Entrepreneurship, took over as Commissioner for Information, while Hamajumba Gatugel, formerly of the Ministry of Transport, is now the Commissioner for Entrepreneurship.

According to the statement, Fintiri expressed confidence in his commissioners’ ability to deliver on their new responsibilities, saying: “This reshuffle is designed to maximise our team’s strengths and improve services to the people of Adamawa.”
