UN, UNAN partner on public work in Nigeria

The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN) and the United Nations (UN) system in Nigeria have restated their commitment to strengthening partnership to achieve greater understanding of UN’s work and its mandate by the Nigerian public.

This was one of the resolution during the courtesy visit by the leadership of UNAN to the UN Resident-Coordinator, Matthias Schmale in his office recently.

Schmale expressed his delight about UNAN’s relevant action on Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8.

“We are keen to deepen partnership with UNAN to achieve greater understanding and engagement of Nigeria citizens with @UN_Nigeria work,” he said.

The UNAN team comprised of President, Dr Joan Agha; Vice President, Ms. Ijeoma Nweke and Secretary-General, Dr Omopeju Afamu, while the Resident Coordinator was joined by the National Information Officer, UN Information Centre (UNIC), Oluseyi Soremekun.

Agha said that UNAN is willing to collaborate with various UN Agencies for greater impact in communities.

“By our mandate as a member of World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), we shall endeavour to bring to the realisation the objectives and ideals of the UN to Nigerian citizens. As well as work towards the achievement of the SDGs in as many communities as possible across Nigeria,” she said.
