UNIJOS warns against illegal use of name

THE management of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has said its attention has been brought to the existence of a fake payment link under a payment platform called ‘Paystack’ being used purportedly to conduct transactions on behalf of the institution, especially regarding payment of school charges by students.

It said its investigations revealed that the fake link was created by fraudsters under the name, Success Academy (BESTEXAMPORTAL), for the purpose of defrauding unsuspecting students legitimately trying to pay their prescribed school charges.

In a statement yesterday, the Deputy Registrar (Information and Communications), Abdullahi Abdullahi, stated that the university has not mandated any website or vendor to collect school charges on its behalf, warning against such illegality.

“The approved process of payment of school charges online, as approved by the Federal Government, is through the ‘Remita’ payment platform, which can be accessed through the University of Jos website, www.unijos.edu.ng.

“Students of the university and members of the public are advised to be wary of the activities of fraudsters when conducting any transactions with the university and should always check details of instructions, payment, registration and other procedures for such transactions via the university’s website ,” the statement added.
