The authorities of University of Ilorin have expelled one Mathew Adeboye Balogun (aka Plato) for alleged sexual molestation of vulnerable female students.

The institution said the action was contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook. A bulletin by the school revealed that Plato was a Master’s Degree student with Matriculation Number: 14/25OD062.

Balogun, until his expulsion, was of the Department of Counsellor Education, Faculty of Education.

According to the management, most of Plato’s victims were admission seekers whom he often promised placements. Others were existing students who were promised good results in exchange for intimate relationships.

A letter of expulsion with reference number: UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01, titled, ‘Re: Allegation of Misconduct against Balogun, Mathew Adeboye’, dated Wednesday, January 3, 2024 reads in part: “Kindly recall that the social media was set agog with the report of sexual molestation by Balogun, Matthew Adeboye, matriculation number 14/25OD062 (aka Plato).

“Subsequently, he was invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, which he did not honour.

“At the second sitting of October 19, 2023 of the Student Disciplinary Committee when he showed up, he admitted the second charge against him of misconducting himself in such a way that he took unlawful and undue advantages of vulnerable students and admission seekers by sexually molesting them under the pretense that he could influence their results and or offer them admissions into the university, contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.

“On October 25, 2023 he was served his letter of expulsion and consequently expelled from the university.”
