UNIMED’s best graduating students get automatic employment

Three of the best graduating students for the 2022/2023 academic session of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo town, Ondo State, were, at the weekend, offered automatic employment by the management of the institution.

The students, Francisca Ademulegun, got First Class in Physiology, Mercy Saba graduated as the best female graduating student, and Michael Aremu was the best male graduating student.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, who disclosed this at the university’s 5th convocation ceremony, said the institution was committed to supporting the beneficiaries to pursue further education.

Fatusi said a total of 19 out of 528 graduates bagged First Class degrees, 217 got Second Class uppers, 94 got Second Class lowers, and 15 bagged Third Class honours.

Fatusi said the institution would not relent in its effort to push for the advancement of African herbal medicine.

Fatusi called on the state government to give special attention and intervention funds to accelerate development in the institution.

According to him, “the government needs to help ensure that UNIMED continues to be a TETFUND beneficiary institution. So far, TETFUND has been the main source of funding UNIMED’s infrastructural deficits.

“As a specialised university, UNIMED has the highest need for developmental projects and resources.”

The governor of Lucky Aiyedatiwa said the sum of N1 billion has been earmarked for the construction of a Senate building on the main campus of the institution.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said he was committed to taking the developmental agenda of the state to the next level.

Delivering the convocation lecture, Chief Executive Officer, Background Check International, Kola Olugbodi, advised the graduates to seek opportunities in the untapped potential for innovation within the country.

He urged the young graduates to view economic difficulties as a canvas for creativity as well as finding novel solutions to enhance healthcare delivery.

“There are lots of good things happening in Nigeria. Anytime you see a society where things are not working, that is a society with lots of opportunities. There are opportunities here. Let’s stay here. We have entered the age of entrepreneurship. Begin to think about entrepreneurship.
