They said the facility provided by the late billionaire oil magnate at the institution, helped to cater for the health needs of staff members and students.
Speaking at a night of tributes organised by the university for the late philanthropist, Prof. Nimi Briggs, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, who were the fifth and seventh Vice-Chancellors and Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Okodudu, among others, noted that the health facility Lulu-Briggs built for the university had a great impact on the institution.
Ajienka said: “Without a health facility, how would we have operated, the staffs and students have benefited immensely from the health care centre which is the only one in the institution, you can imagine how the facility has saved the university from several health disasters and challenges “
In his tribute, Prof. Okodudu described the death of Lulu-Briggs as a tragedy to the university, following his philanthropic interventions to the institution, adding that the institution organised the event to remember a great friend and ally.
A year one student of the Department of Political Science, Goodluck Joseph, said: “The health centre reduced sudden deaths among students. It has been so impactful, we are happy and grateful.”
Meanwhile, widow of the late philanthropist, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, was absent at the event that preceded the final burial ceremony on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Council of Rivers State.
Second son of deceased and head of Young Briggs House, Dump Lulu-Briggs, who had been at loggerheads with Seinye over his investments and will, led his other siblings including his elder brother, Senibo Lulu-Briggs, and others to the event.
