Unknown assailants kill security guard in Ekiti

A 75-year-old security guard attached to the Agriculture department located within the old governor’s office, Ado Ekiti, has been murdered in his farm.

The deceased simply identified as Bayo Ajayi was said to have gone to his farm located at Agric Olope area of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital when the incident occurred.

His colleague who spoke with The Guardian on condition of anonymity, said the deceased went to the farm on Saturday afternoon.

“He was said to have met some people who are stealing maize from his farm and he confronted them and in the ensuing melee, he was killed.

“When he didn’t return home, his children came to the office to look for him with some corn they allegedly found on the farm,” the source said.

He added that when he failed to return home on Saturday, a search party was dispatched on Sunday morning back to the farm.

“When they dialed his phone number, it was ringing and that was how they were able to discovered his lifeless body inside the farm.”

The guard noted that he might have been hit with an object in his head because of the sharp mark on his head where he bled to death.

When contacted, spokesperson for Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, said he was yet to receive any report about the incident.

He promised to get back as soon as he has information on the matter.
