A Federal appeals court in the United States (US) on Tuesday denied former president, Donald Trump, of any presidential immunity.

According to the court, Trump can be prosecuted for alleged crimes he committed during his reign as president to alter the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The court in its ruling said this is because he is no longer President Trump but has now become citizen Trump.

“For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant. But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as President no longer protects him against this prosecution,” the court wrote in its judgement.

Trump had always insisted in the landmark legal case that he had immunity from criminal charges for his actions which he said fell within his roles as president.

Currently, Trump has as many as 91 criminal charges in four separate trials with most of them scheduled to begin in the year 2024.

Some of these cases will have grave consequences on his business and ambition if he is eventually found guilty.

Furthermore, the 77-year-old media personality and businessman who served as the 45th president of the US from 2017 to 2021 might not be on the ballot if found guilty.
