The Anambra State Police command has confirmed that it has rescued two of the kidnapped victims during Wednesday’s attack on the United States (US) Consulate Convoy.

The Anambra State Police spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed in an official statement that the successful rescue operation took place in the early hours of Friday.

“In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, the joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy along the Atani/Osomalla road in the Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State,” Tochukwu said.

According to the Anambra State Police imagemaker, tactical operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated.

Friday’s successful resuce mission comes just a day after the police arrested two suspects in connection with the attack.

Meanwhile, the US late Wednesday night condemned the killing of its staff in the attack that took place in the Amiyi/Eke Ochuche communities of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The attack by unknown gunmen on Wednesday claimed the lives of four staff members from the US Embassy in Nigeria.

The victims who were on a humanitarian mission in the state were ruthlessly shot dead during an ambush.

Addressing the incident in a press briefing, national security council spokesperson, John Kirby, said no US citizen was harmed.

The White House earlier confirmed that no US citizen was involved in the attack on the officials of the US Embassy in Anambra.

Secretary of State, Antony John Blinken had also said that the US will do everything within its power to recover its staff who are still missing following the attack and condoled with family members of the victims.
