The United States Embassy and former vice president, Yemi Osinbajo have wished Tunde Onakoya well in his attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records.

Onakoya set up a program “About Play Chess With Tunde Onakoya” to support the dreams of millions of children globally.

To achieve this, Onakoya will play chess for 58 consecutive hours from 10 am on Wednesday, April 17 to 8 pm on April 19 in Times Square, New York, thereby, breaking the Guinness Book of World Record.

“Best wishes to @Tunde_OD on his knightly mission to break the world record for the longest chess marathon without losing a game,” US Mission Nigeria said on X.

“We are thrilled to cheer him on as he makes history in the heart of Times Square and brings hope to children who dream of a brighter future through education. Go Tunde!.”

Osinbajo also took to his X handle on Wednesday to wish Onakoya the very best of luck.

“Dear Tunde, best of luck in Times Square as you attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Chess Marathon,” Osinbajo wrote.

“Your resilience and spirit inspire us all. Remember your own powerful words: “It is possible to do great things from a small place.”

The former VP urged Onakoya to allow the dynamic energy of Times Square amplify the greatness that he, a proud Nigerian, brings to the chessboard.

Osinbajo added that Nigerians are behind Onakoya as he shows the world the strength and determination he is made of.

Onakoya said the goal of the program is to donate one million chess sets globally.

To date, they have secured 116,000 chess sets for global distribution, reaching over 25 countries, he said.

Onakoya has also taken the game of chess to a greater level in Nigeria.
