Led by Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Council, Chukwudi Nnadozie, representative of Uzo-Uwani Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Josephat Okika, Commissioner for Agriculture, Matthew Idu and their elder statesmen, Dr. Mike Ajogwu and Chief Maxi Ukuta, they commended Ugwuanyi for restoring peace and security to the council.
They also expressed gratitude to the governor for the numerous face-lifting infrastructure projects his administration has executed in Uzo-Uwani Council, which was hitherto neglected for many decades, as well as the appointment of their sons and daughters into various government positions.
The Uzo-Uwani leaders reaffirmed their solidarity and support for Ugwuanyi, stressing that they will give him 100 per cent votes in 2023 from the party primaries to the general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Uzo-Uwani people, Nnadozie said: “You have done your own part. We are waiting for 2023 and starting from this year our people have vowed that nobody will penetrate them and that they will remain intact for you.”
Also speaking, Idu, who corroborated Nnadozie, described Ugwuanyi as a peacemaker and great achiever, stressing that their loyalty and support for the governor was overwhelming.
On his part, Ukuta supported the stance of the Uzo-Uwani stakeholders and commended the governor for the successful conduct of the recent council elections in the state.
Ukuta stated that Ugwuanyi has “been generally acknowledged as a man of peace, which is enormous and important to us.”
He told the governor that Uzo-Uwani supports him totally, adding: “It is not for nothing, it is based on your sense of equity, good conscience and being a decent man.”
MEANWHILE, Council Chairmen in Enugu West Senatorial District have accused Senator Ike Ekweremadu of being economical with the truth over the zoning of the state’s governorship position.
The council chairmen of the senatorial district made their position known in a communiqué issued after their meeting in Udi Council of the state.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Chairman Aninri Ajah Beneth Ogbonna; Chairman, Awgu Council, Pedro Nwankwo; Chairman of Udi Council, Nze Philip Okoh; Chairman, Oji River Council, Chinedu Onyeagba, Chairman, Ezeagu Council, Chukwudi Ozoelube and Vice Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).
While declaring his governorship ambition last week, Ekweremadu had challenged proponents of zoning to state when and where such an agreement was ever reached.
But the council chairmen said he was present at the meeting of July 7, 2013 where the Enugu State Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reached an agreement on zoning and as such does not have the moral standing to reject it.
