The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved the constitution of an eight-member Imo State Electricity Commission.

According to a statement issued, yesterday, by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, the Chairman of the commission is Sam Nwaire, while Chinemerem Ugochukwu Nnawuihe is the Secretary.

Other members of the agency are Bede Okpara, Celestine Onwuharanya, Nnamdi Okwuosa, Ogechi Ogu, Chidimma Oparaocha and Aniche Ada. They are to be inaugurated by the governor tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4, at the Executive Council Chambers, the Government House, Owerri, at 2:00 p.m.

IN another development, the Imo State Government, at the weekend, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Egyptian firm, Madkour Group, to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to the state by January 2025.

While Dr. Mostafa Madkour signed for Madkour Group, the Acting General Manager of Orashi Electricity Company of Imo State, Valentine Obumeyan, signed on behalf of the state government.

This culminated in a series of tours and talks between the two parties.

Both parties promised to work within the time frame to solve the seemingly perennial issue of epileptic power supply to the state.

Speaking at the event held at the Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma recalled that he had assented to the bill that created the Orashi Electricity Company Limited, stressing: “I assented to a law on power generation for the state and the law created Orashi Electricity Company Limited for Imo State.”
