Uzodimma’s former aide regains freedom

After 10 days in detention, the Police have released the former Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Special Duties, Chinasa Nwaneri. Nwaneri, and others, were arrested on the orders of the governor for alleged fraudulent activities and harassment of some Imo residents.

However, spokesperson for Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, yesterday confirmed that the former governor’s aide has been released.
Okoye, posted on the police media forum platform: “Yes. He has been released to a reliable surety. Investigation continues.”

Before his arrest, Nwaneri was Uzodimma’s closest aide, even before and during his eight -year sojourns as a senator. He was appointed the governor’s Special Adviser (Special Duties), soon after Uzodimma took the oath of office and oath of allegiance on January 15, 2020.

He functioned at the capacity until the dissolution of the expanded state executive council on January 16. Sources said Nwaneri allegedly involved alongside others in deals without the consent of the governor, in addition to incessant harassment of some residents in the state, which angered the governor to order for his arrest.
