Varsity trains  law students for future responsibilities

As part of efforts to groom its students and prepare them for future responsibilities, the Dean, College of Law, Caleb University, Lagos, Prof. Foluke Dada, has disclosed that the programme would sensitise them on what lawyering is, apart from classroom experience.

Dada, while addressing journalists in Lagos said the week-long event,  designed in line with the regulations of the Council for Legal Education, is an avenue to inculcate in the students salient qualities that would enable them excel and stand out in the profession.

Besides, Dada said the students are also expected  to learn through chamber and court attachments, as well as social and educational activities organised within the college.

“Also in promoting the culture of learning, during this kind of week, students would have all the activities put together in a bulletin that would remind them of the good things that they have been able to learn.

She added that the Law Week, the second in the series, is themed:  ‘Igniting the  torch of excellence: Passing the flames to budding Lawyers.’
She said the activities lined up for the week include  a chat with Kwame Ogala (SAN) on ‘The road to becoming a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,’ law dinner, which she said is a requirement of the Council of Legal Education, to train the students on the etiquette of the profession.

Other activities include a mentorship session facilitated by some younger lawyers and some senior lawyers, which will focus on law and technology; inauguration of the Centre for Human Rights and Technology and the new executive  of the Law Students’

The  college would also sign a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, and inauguration of the students into the Public Interest Lawyering Initiative for West Africa (PILIWA) community. Dada said the week-long activities would close on Sunday with a church service, and students are expected to wear costumes from their backgrounds.
