VC vows to curb cultism, hooliganism as Alayande varsity matriculates 2,600 pioneer students

The pioneer Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo Town, Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan, yesterday, promised that the university would deal decisively with any student involved in cultism, hooliganism and violence under the institution’s rules and regulations.

Olaniyan stated this during the first matriculation ceremony of the university, which matriculated 2,600 students, signifying the official maiden commencement of the 2023/2024 academic session.


The vice chancellor said: ”Out of 3,306 applicants, only 2,600 students met the merit qualifications and were admitted into the institution. Of the pioneer students, 59 per cent are female and 41 per cent are male, showcasing the university’s gender sensitivity.

”This is the university for tomorrow because we are preparing our students for tomorrow’s jobs.

”Anyone found wanting in cultism, hooliganism and violence will be dealt with in line with the rules and regulations of the university. It is for us to maintain sanity in the system.”

The VC, therefore, charged the new students to excel in their academic journey.

The Keynote Speaker, a former Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, charged the new students to discover their hidden potential for personal and national benefit.

He also urged them to be good ambassadors as the institution progresses, recognising the challenges inherent in the educational journey and the significance of planning and resilience.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. SaliuAdelabu, reiterated the state government’s commitment to the university’s development.
