Vince The Commander returns in highlife fusion, One N Only

Vince The CommanderIf there ever was a musical Mount Rushmore, Vince the Commander is poised to be among those fated heads, the young maverick says. One N Only, his latest musical offering seems to be a vehicle for such motivation, as the Afro-fusion maestro returns to the fore with the impressive RnB-highlife fusion that spotlights the beauty of experimentation.

Produced and sound engineered by himself, the song is a fresh return from Vince’s last record dubbed, X, which set the singer off on a trail of sonic rediscovery. On One N Only, he professes his fidelity and love for his partner.

“The song was inspired by me listening to a lot of highlife music like Cavemen, Victor Uwaifo, Rex Lawson and more,” he cracks a sharp smile, as he peels back memories on the song’s creation. “I wanted to do something to that effect and talk about wooing a babe at the same time, hence the lyrics and the danceable guitar hook. I played the guitar as well.”

On One N Only, Vince dazzles with the mastery of his highlife fusion, chipping in bits of neo-soul and smooth RnB that really puts the rhythm in blues. It’s not his best record, but it’s an enthralling swipe into his discography, as well as also being a good discovery starter for new fans.

On what’s next, he says, “I’m looking to continue to experiment with different kinds of African sounds and textures, keep doing my part to push African music and African culture forward and paint our people in a positive light.”

One N Only is now out across all music streaming services.
