VP Shettima … The peacemaker

VP Shettima reconciles Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Governor Dapo Abiodun

Senator Kashim Shettima has shown in the past few weeks that he is a man of peace and promoter of peaceful co-existence. Some weeks back, a video that emanated from a meeting of governors and the president trended online and social media platforms.

In the video, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara had gone to greet the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, but there were some persons on a number of seats before that of the vice president.

One of the persons on seat was the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, whom Fubara did not greet probably because both of them are no longer on the same page politically. But just as Fubara greeted Shettima, the vice president pointed at Wike and perhaps told Fubara the need to also greet Wike.

Similarly, just last week, Shettima was at it again. It is an open secret that Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Governor Dapo Abiodun for some years now have drawn political battle lines. And Shettima tried to mend fence for the one time good friends. At an event in Lagos, Shettima not only shook hands with the political gladiators, he took the hands of Amosun and Abiodun, placing them on each other. He whispered some words which both parties best understood.

If that is how to promote peace from quarrel that was stimulated by political misunderstanding is another issue. However, Shettima has taken the role of promoting peace along with deputising for President Bola Tinubu.
