The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured candidates that they can get a replacement of their lost, burnt and damaged West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) certificates through digital retrieval medium.
Head of Nigeria National Office, Patrick Areghan, disclosed this at a media briefing ahead of the examination body’s 70th council meeting, which is billed to hold in Abuja from March 14 to 28.
According to Areghan, WAEC is about to launch a digital avenue of retrieving lost original certificates issued by its candidates.
He noted that the result retrieval would be made seamless for anyone who misplaced or lost certificates to fire incidents or had old results missing in any form.
Areghan said the transformation of the examination body from analogue to digital platform has made its activities seamless and made the processing of documents easier online.
On the forthcoming council meeting, Areghan said President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to declare the event opened, while an eminent scholar from the Educational Foundation Department of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof Ngozi Azuka Osarenren, will deliver a lecture.
He said: “The last time the Nigeria National Office hosted the meeting was in 2017, which was the 65th meeting. It meets yearly to review the activities and operations of its various committees and national offices in the five-member countries.”
He indicated that the council meeting would be followed by the presentation of the International Excellence and National Distinction Merit awards.
“No doubt, WAEC has creditably executed its functions by successfully meeting the educational aspirations of its teeming clientele across the sub-region for 70 years now,” Areghan said.
He said the success of WAEC is hinged on the support it garnered from governments of the five-member countries, most especially the Nigeria national office.
