We have paid about N31b to senior citizens, says Oyetola

Oyetola
Osun State Governor of Gboyega Oyetola, yesterday, said that his administration would not relent in putting top priority on the welfare of active and retired workers in the state.

He disclosed that the state government had paid about N31 billion as pensions to all categories of senior citizens since 2018.

The governor spoke in Osogbo while presenting N963.25 million to pensioners in the state.

At the event, which witnessed the presentation of bond certificates to retired public servants, held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Local Government Service Commission, Abere, Osogbo, the governor pleaded with citizens to continue to co-operate and support government policies and programmes.

He promised not to relent in the payment of workers’ entitlements despite the harsh economic conditions arising from national economic challenges, stressing that the state has consistently released N509 million on a monthly basis to cater for pensioners under the old pension scheme.

The governor, while presenting the bond certificates to the beneficiaries, said the decision was in continuation of his administration’s irrevocable commitment to the welfare of retirees, especially those who retired on the Contribution Pension Scheme.

He, therefore, urged them to continue to put in their best and rally round government in its onerous effort to reposition the state and stimulate its economy for prosperity and abundance.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Dr. Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega, applauded Oyetola for prioritising the welfare and well-being of the citizens, particularly both active and passive workers in the state.

Also, the state Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jacob Adekomi, expressed gratitude to the governor for taking the welfare and well-being of the civil servants as a priority.
