We’re all experiencing pain, let’s wait for Tinubu’s palliatives, Onanuga pleads

President Bola Tinubu

A spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council during the 2023 election Bayo Onanuga has urged Nigerians to wait patiently for the palliatives promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Onanuga said this in the wake of the new pump price of fuel coupled with the removal of payment of subsidy on petrol which has further worsened the sufferings of the masses and poor Nigerians.

“In this season of high fuel price, I want to plead with our people to exercise some patience. We are all jointly experiencing the pain,” Onanuga tweeted.

The spokesman for the Tinubu/Shettima campaign also pleaded with Nigerians to stop the intemperate attacks against the new government.

“Let’s await the palliatives as his government has promised. Let’s await the palliatives that will flow from each state as more money is channeled to them from the subsidy savings.

“We cannot go back to the hyper fraudulent subsidy regime where we were spending more money on petrol than on roads, education and health. My people, patience, patience please. I beg you all.

“No country has ever made progress without the people going through some pains. Our country under Tinubu’s watch shall certainly excel.”

Nigerians are groaning over the increase in the price of petrol which has caused a spike in the cost of living, especially in food and transportation.

President Tinubu during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023 said that subsidy on petrol had been removed.

There has been knocks from different quarters since the pump price of fuel surged to N617 per litre in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja and N568 in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the new selling pump price with its president, Joe Ajaero, saying that Nigerians are being deceived on the issue of petrol pricing.

Ajaero rejecting the new pump price of fuel further said that the masses are being punished unnecessarily while Tinubu’s administration is toying with Nigerians and the NNPCL is only being clever by half.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said that fuel should not sell for more than N150 per litre in all states across the nation.

The party cautioned that the increase is worsening the already suffocating economic situation under the APC and has the capability of triggering very serious crisis in the country if not abated.

According to the opposition party, it is appalling that instead of seeking ways to stabilize and grow the economy, the APC administration has abandoned the welfare of Nigerians which is the primary purpose of Government under Section 14 (2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
