.As alumnus charges UNIBEN students to aspire for the best

Former Governor of Rivers State and Pro-Chancellor of PAMO University of Medical Sciences, Peter Odili, has said the institution is determined to produce professionals in healthcare.


Odili spoke at the 7th Matriculation of 2023/2024 Session of the University, yesterday.
He admonished the new undergraduates to focus on their studies, saying the school had zero tolerance for social vices.

He said: “Take pains to study your handbook, obey the rules. You have heard the Vice Chancellor tell you about zero tolerance. It means zero. So, parents, do not come begging when there is an infringement because the consequences are clearly spelt out.”

He urged the students to take the bold step of reporting any act of harassment, saying: “Students take note, any staff that harasses you in any way report that staff. Do not be afraid to report.”

In her address, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Christie Mato, said 198 students matriculated, with approximately 76 per cent in the MBBS programme.

Meanwhile, an alumnus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Mr Chidozie Obiorah, yesterday, charged undergraduates in the institution to aspire for the best life can offer regardless of their discipline/ course of study towards a thriving career and better future.


Obiorah made the remark during the 3rd Almunus Lecture Series of Faculty Life Sciences, University of Benin, with theme: “Fortunate Me: Fortunate You: From the Lab to Global Oil and Gas Leader.”

Obiorah advised students, who could not study their preferred courses at the university, not to feel unhappy and unlucky, but to remain resilient and see beyond the opportunities around them by keeping faith in their ability to succeed.

Obiorah, who is also a Global Manager, Health, Safety, Security and Environment, Shell International, said the lecture was to create a platform and motivate students that no matter the course of study, they could still make a difference in the society if they work hard.

On his part, Chairman, Organising Committee, 3rd Almunus Lecture Series of Faculty Life Sciences, University of Benin, Prof Anthony Ogbeibu, said the event was meant to bring alumni, who had made significant impacts in their chosen career, to inspire students.

Head of Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Prof. Dennis Vwioko, the Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof.Jerry Orhue, accompanied by the guest lecturer and students joined in the unveiling of the inverted solar system procured for the faculty.
