APC group backs decision to bar pro-Wike lawmakers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that the enemies of the state have been defeated already, saying there’s no need to disrupt peace.
Fubara, who has begun the celebration of his one year in office, said that what his detractors thought they would have done to his government while celebrating his first anniversary in office has turned to fight them.

He said: “They are the ones sleeping with their two eyes open. It shows that we have the Ijaw blood. And what is that blood: it is the blood of action; less talk, more action.”

The governor’s reaction may have followed the latest gale of resignations from Commissioners loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the sacking of the 27 lawmakers loyal to him.

The governor spoke, while addressing the national and state leadership of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), who were on a solidarity walk to the Government House in Port Harcourt, yesterday.

The solidarity walk was staged as part of activities to celebrate the heroic exploits of the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro, 56 years after his death, which is observed on May 16 every year.

Fubara appealed to Ijaw youths to conduct themselves peacefully, as they celebrate Major Isaac Adaka Boro Day, and also be good ambassadors of the entire Ijaw nation.

The governor acknowledged, with delight, the assurances of brotherly support from IYC, urging the Ijaw nation to key into the ongoing celebration of the liberation the state is enjoying now.

MEANWHILE, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Frontier has applauded the decision by the court to bar 25 Rivers State House of Assembly members from parading themselves as members.

Denouncing the lawmakers, the Lagos-based group, in a statement, on Tuesday, said that their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a betrayal of the trust and mandate given to them.

Signed by its National President, Ajani Martins, the statement further described the defectors as political prostitutes, who have no place in the APC.

According to Martins, their defection is not only morally wrong but a clear sign of their lack of principles and integrity. Martins, therefore, said that the ruling party doesn’t support such illegality and treachery, adding that those who voted for them deserve better.  The statement said: “We have followed the political crisis in Rivers State and actions taken by major actors, including the Assembly members.
