What A Day In Balogun And Tejuosho Market Looks Like

Lagos itself is one of the busiest places on earth, because of its population, and as the business hub of Nigeria, it’s called the commercial centre for a reason. The markets contributed to these effects too.

The state has many popular markets that tend to people from all parts of the country, and even outside of the country too. In places like Balogun market and Tejuoshoo in Yaba, a day is almost impossible to plan. You can’t plan the day, the day plans you.

What a day in Lagos market looks like, has many fabrics, depending on the angle you are looking at it from. However, everyone has a different experience about what each day looks like. Let us consider the experience of the people below.

A day in the Balogun market

Arguably the most popular market in Lagos, it is also regarded as the fabric hub of Lagos. You will see fabric materials in different colours, and as you are buying one, many are arriving to replace it, such is how busy the market could be.

In Balogun market, if you are not careful you could lose both your focus and your properties too. It all depends on how high alert you are.

Narrating her ordeal. Oke Odumorayo explained that the bad odours from different people were just the turn-off for her. Though she got what she wanted, the physical touch and the unhealthy attitude of the people there is a story she is not happy to narrate.

Then we have the shopkeepers, a combination of many groups, their greetings echo through the air. In the Balogun market,  bargaining is an art form, a dance of negotiation where prices fluctuate with each friendly jibe.

In Yaba, popularly known as Tejuosho market, you will get almost anything you want. What does a day in Sabo Yaba look like? Speaking to a fashion designer, and an experienced navigator of that axis, Shittu Fatiha said, “I have always come to this market to carry out a lot of functions and businesses too, but one thing here’s how expensive things can instantly get, it is like the people here have a network through which they quickly exchange messages, and whatever price one said, be certain its similar price everywhere too”

Simply put unlike in the Balogun market where the competition is high, in Tejuosho they are united in their prices of goods.

Now this is not a general statement about the prices of materials there, this i  a day in these two markets and by two different people. The next bus stop would be the LekkiArtss and Craft Market. You can journey with us in the sonnet of time, to share your day in a Lagos market.
