The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr Abdul Ibraheem, has pointed out that collaboration between academia and industry is crucial for the much-desired national development and youth empowerment.

Ibraheem, who disclosed this while reporting on his stewardship in the last one year, said aligning academic programmes with real-world needs would enhance innovation and sustainable growth.

A public lecture delivered by the Rector, Redeemers College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), Dr Stella Mofunanya, was also held in his honour.

Ibraheem stated that as part of the collaboration, the college has established an alliance group to partner industries, as well as information and communication technology (ICT) academies to enhance students’ skills, keep up with advancements in technology and obtain skill certifications before graduation.

He added that the institution has received donations worth N26 billion for legacy projects.

These include a 150-acre landed property at Snake Island for a Green Campus initiative by philanthropist, Chief Rasheed Fanimokun, as well as a hostel building at Epe campus donated by Doja Otedola.

A former rector of the college, George Okufi, commended Ibraheem for embracing the challenges of leadership with humility.

In her lecture on “Leadership and service: The need for creativity, innovation and excellence,” Mofunanya noted that in today’s rapidly evolving world, effective leadership and dedicated service require a blend of creativity, innovation, and excellence.

She lauded the rector’s approach to incorporating these elements into his leadership style, ensuring that Yabatech remains adaptive and resilient in facing future challenges.

Mofunanya noted that the traditional models of leadership and service are no longer sufficient, hence the need for creativity and innovation.
