Following the recent security breach at the performance of Afro-pop singer, Teni, in Rivers State, the Rivers State Police Command has said that the incident was due to the absence of police operatives at the venue.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the organisers of the event failed to apply to the police for security operatives at the venue, which was in the Degema axis of the state.
Recall that eyewitnesses had shared a now-viral video footage of unknown assailants firing their guns into the air at the venue.
Iringe-Koko had earlier said the gunfire was from private security agents who fired to disperse restive miscreants at the scene, debunking claims of attempted kidnapping.
“No police officer from Rivers State Command fired any gunshot that day. Normally, if they have such an event they are supposed to write an application to the Commissioner of Police. Then the CP would direct the Area Commander covering the Degema axis. The Area Commander would then assign it to the Divisional Police Officer at Buguma that will cover the event. But there was no application of such. Perhaps the DPO and his men strolled around to the venue while on patrol. But there was no application for such security that day.”
