The Women Radio Centre (WRC) has announced its 2024 investigative training for female journalists, which will start today, May 13, 2024, to end on May 15, 2024.
The three-day residential training, which is now in its third year, will equip female journalists with practical techniques to conduct in-depth investigative reports on underrepresented issues affecting women and girls in Nigeria.
Faculty for the 2024 training comprises practicing industry experts and professionals led by the Publisher of Premium Times Nigeria, Dapo Olorunyomi. Others are Dr. Suleiman M. Yar’adua of Bayero University, Kano; Managing Editor of Premium Times Nigeria, Idris Akinbajo; Deputy Director at Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Busola Ajibola; Programme Lead at Dataphyte, Charles Mbah; Senior Researcher at Dubawa Ghana, Maxine Danso, and undercover investigative journalist from Ghana, Anas Aremeyaro.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Women Radio Centre, Toun Okewale–Sonaiya, emphasised the objective of the training, as giving power to young female journalists to uncover and report untold stories that affect women and girls, amplify the voices of women and create a balance in the investigative gender gap.
“Out of the 388 applications received from female journalists, we carefully selected 20 female journalists and journos, who will benefit from the wealth of our seasoned faculty,” she said.
Women Radio Centre, the first female academy, was established in 2020, with the support of the MacArthur Foundation, to train women in the media.
